We focus on the preservation and enhancement of indigenous natural ecosystems and the active conservation of indigenous plants, animals, and other wildlife — principally by controlling plant and animal pests on public land, and by providing advice and support to local landowners to help them do the same on their lands.
Our key activities are:
- Pest plant control — targeting moth plant, asparagus, tobacco and other invasive species on public land.
- Pest animal control — rat baiting across Te Matuku Bay Scenic Reserve using a network of 136 bait stations baited three times per year.
- Community advice and support — we assist local landowners in implementing pest control on their land so as to extend the local area under active conservation.
- Monitoring and reporting — we track our progress through outcome statistics, audits, bird counts and pest plant surveys.
We work in partnership with the Department of Conservation, Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki, and a range of other organisations and individuals who share our commitment to the Te Matuku environs.
